Paul Smith Spring Summer 10

The collection began with Daniele Tamagni’s story of the ‘Gentleman of the Bacongo’, which celebrated the stylish phenomenon that emerged during the French Colonial rule of the 1960’s.

The young Congolese men that were so taken by the distinguished style of the French they formed a society which adapted their influential way of dressing in dapper suits, ties, bowler hats and brogues.

Quintessentially English tailoring is present throughout, contrasting sartorial masculinity with upbeat colour and print. Waxed linen blazers are narrow and slim, teamed with fitted peg top trousers whilst chequerboard knits in strong colours are buttoned up or worn over shirts and ties. Cardigans are layered around the body, tied across the hips and shoulders to create shape conscious silhouettes.

The Paul Smith signature is present in the form of painted stripes, checks, crisp poplins and brightly coloured punched leather flat brogues.
