Norman Parkinson Exhibition at Albemarle St

Monday 3 November 2008

This November, Paul Smith is delighted to be hosting an exhibition of Norman Parkinson’s photographs - one of the foremost fashion and portrait photographer’s of the twentieth century.

With a career spanning fifty years, Parkinson’s subjects have included artists, actors and royals alike. His groundbreaking style took models out of the formal studio setting to exotic outdoor locations – his signature style introduced elegant images of subjects in informal settings and easy poses. His unique eye for glamour and beauty and his pioneering use of outdoor colour photography were unequalled. From the 1940s to 1970s he was a regular photographer for Vogue and Queen.

‘Contacts, Cigarettes and Colour’ brings together twenty beautiful photographs that pay tribute to Parkinson’s career. These include original contact sheets plus a variety of unseen portraits and photographs from the Norman Parkinson archive.
