The sun was shining in Paris for the debut of the Paul Smith Spring/Summer 2012 collection: a minimal and classic collection drawing inspiration from traditional workwear but reinterpreted to create modern and elegant shapes.

The colour palette is inspired by a singular colour, navy blue, and is complimented by brief shades of terracotta, coral and various shades of grey. Prints are bright, bold and graphic, providing a sharp punctuation of contrasting colour.

The silhouette is sharp; workwear inspired box shaped jackets with neat shoulders are seen alongside short, slim workers’ smocks with extreme drop shoulders. The traditional interior detailing of work jackets has been brought to the exterior, mixing laser guided stitching with hand finishing to create a lightweight construction. Collars are either removed or stitched down and, when combined with large patch pockets, create a distinctly utilitarian sensibility to the collection.

Key collection pieces: Collarless jackets, navy panelled trousers, herringbone work shirts and ox blood anorak jackets.

This seasons's model line up included: Yuri Pleskun, Stephane Olivier, Isaac Carew, Charlie France, Hugo Villard and Marcel Castenmiller.
