Elisa is an Ngugi woman and descendant of the Quandamooka people of the sand and waters (Yulu Burri Ba) of Moreton Bay Queensland, Australia. Currently based in London, Elisa Jane creates an array of artworks depicting the fauna and flora her family used for food and other medicinal uses for survival. Mumberleya tumbe stands for Live; Elisa Jane’s paintings represent the rich and vibrant relationship that dwells in the harmony of nature and nurture by using colours from every spectrum to create whimsical lines, curvy strokes and bold dots that develop the life of each plant onto canvas.
Every work has a story to share; by endorsing the Aboriginal plant name, Elisa Jane hopes to share her family’s cultural connections with nature and the lifeblood and reality of belonging.
