Pete McKee's Northern Souls

Manchester Legends

Paul Smith is pleased to present an exhibition of prints by famed British artist Pete McKee.

Peter uses an economical modernist style to create a portfolio of prints that exude humour and character.

With just a few lines, his art lays bare the human side of Northern working-class life. His inspiration is the vividly remembered places and characters of his youth in the ’60s and ’70s - the days when everyone had a cigarette on the go and working men’s clubs were full of working men and when holidays meant fish and chips on the seafront at Skegness.

The exhibition ‘NORTERN SOULS’ is inspired by pop music, pop culture and fashion, and its impact on Great Britain’s youth - all beautifully observed. It was an achingly perfect portrayal of a bedroom guitar-playing dreamer that caught the attention of Noel Gallagher. Amongst others, he has since received commissions from the likes of Oasis and The Arctic Monkeys.

Peter’s new exhibition ‘Northern Souls’ can be seen at Paul Smith ‘Globe’ gallery until the 25th of March. Prints will also be available to purchase online here.
