The Wood Show
RICHARD WOODS EXHIBITION AT PAUL SMITH ‘SPACE’, TOKYO
Richard Woods, ‘The Wood Show’
18th October – 30th November 2008
Paul Smith SPACE GALLERY
5-46-14 Jingumae, Shibuya, Tokyo
Open: 11:00 – 20:00 (closed on Wednesday)
Paul Smith is delighted to host an exhibition of the work of British artist Richard Woods at Paul Smith SPACE, Tokyo.
Woods is renowned for manipulating existing architectural spaces to create entirely new rooms. Using traditional wood block printmaking techniques on plywood and household gloss finishes, he covers spaces to create a new surrounding that is un-expected and entirely new.
‘The Wood Show’ exhibition will see the entire gallery floor covered with the printed wood block work called ‘logo’. This is a continuing series, the first of which was installed and displayed at Modern Art Inc. London in 2000.
The exhibition will also include graphic ‘offcut’ pictures; simple and striking works that use floorboard offcuts inlayed into raw plywood using a technique known as marquetry. A continuing series from 2006, the five works exhibited at the gallery will be no.41,42,43,44 and 45. In addition, a yet unseen light will be on display for the first time.
In addition, ten limited edition and exclusive prints made especially for Paul Smith, will be available to purchase.
