Overview

Andy Warhol. A Guide to 706 Items in 2 Hours and 56 Minutes adds a new dimension to what we know about how Warhol saw the world. Twenty years after his death we can ask why Andy Warhol is still so important and what his artistic legacy actually is. Warhol's wide-ranging multimedia approach is relatively unfamiliar, even though it had considerable impact on his whole oeuvre. From the 1960s, Warhol captured his everyday surroundings and a society in flux on film, video and audio tapes. This material and his celebrated films function like 'moving paintings', presented in an exhibition architecture developed specifically for this presentation. The exhibition also presents Warhol's photos, drawings, screen prints and spectacular spatial installations, such as Silver Clouds

One of the most influential artists of the 20th century, Andy Warhol (1928 - 1987) reproduced 'popular' symbols from everyday life. Everyone is familiar with his Campbell's soup cans and colourful depictions of Marilyn Monroe and many other famous figures. All the same, there are always new things to discover in the work of this artist, who has to be counted as the ultimate icon of Pop Art.

This richly illustrated publication provides a general introduction to Warhol's artistic thinking. The book also includes several critical essays that explore Warhol's films and archive materials in greater depth, from the photographic documentation of his studio, the Factory, from the 1960s to the Time Capsules, in which Warhol assembled all manner of personal and social objects.
