Men's Shoes and Accessories Autumn/Winter 14

For autumn/winter 14, Paul Smith men's shoe collection has updated classic silhouettes and styles.

Traditional English brogues are given a contemporary makeover with subtle glimpses of colour and a playful approach to pattern and textures. The seemingly conventional is transformed into a piece of captivating design, as shown on the Lincoln with its bold coloured top pieces on the soles and highlight detailing, or the dyed leather of the Hayden, in which flashes of blue peek out from raw edges underneath a black top layer.

Other styles – such as rugged brogue-style boots – push the boundaries further with commando rubber soles, splattered with dusky pinks and petrol blues, reminiscent of paint on canvas. Sportswear influences come through in sophisticated details across the collection, from exposed elastic on country Derby shoes and brightly coloured eyelets to a printed leather sole overlaid with a translucent layer.

An interplay between function and design comes through in the Costello, a tasselled loafer that allows easy removal of its decoration when opting for a dressed down style. Meanwhile, luxe sneakers make bridging the gap between formal and casual a breeze, with options in high-grade Italian leather, brush wool or striking blue sequins.

Focusing on durability matched by a playful, sportswear aesthetic, tennis shoes feature structural leather cup soles, high-tech uppers, nylon canvas linings and a stretchy tongue with toggle for ease and speed of fastening. Meanwhile, other sneaker models come in spectacular graphic prints, animal patterns and Maharam fabric versions.

For autumn/winter 14, Paul Smith's men's accessories collection focuses on mixing the high end with the functional.

The signature V-Base style, with its distinctive structural folded base, has been updated with new colour-contrast detail for added visual impact, which can be seen across both holdall and business folio bags. The handle has been ergonomically reshaped and a padded inner tube applied for added comfort. Made from soft, yet durable, leather, the bags are finished beautifully with chunky zips and polka-dot linings in navy blue.

This attention to detail is carried through to the Artisan Business collection, featuring two briefcase models made from fine leather and featuring handcrafted stitching. Meanwhile, a play on textures is integral to the Pebble Emboss line, which contrasts a textural-leather body against a smooth gusset.

Combining a more casual feel with a nod to premium materials and workmanship, lightweight backpacks mix grosgrain with Ripstop and breathable Airtex to create a bag that is as stylish as it is practical. Featuring sponge mesh pockets and ergonomic straps, it comes in versions large enough to carry a 13in laptop with ease, and has added details such as contrastcolour handstitching. Meanwhile, the City Webbing collection catches attention with its unique strap, constructed from webbing decorated with a stripe inspired by Paul Smith Maharam fabric.
