Paul Smith AW12

For autumn / winter 12 the mainline collection draws inspiration from the deep sea. Classic maritime styles are reworked to create modern, elegant shapes.

The palette is luxurious; the predominate colour of darkest navy is matched with dark emeralds and browns, punctuated by contrasting panels of vivid neon yellow, orange and reflective scotchlite trims. Prints are bold, bright and graphic; shark’s teeth, jellyfish and coral prints are central to the collection and are seen on both shirting and trousers.

Outerwear is key for autumn / winter 12; double breasted coats are seen alongside maritime style smocks and parkas which are worn over sharp, slim and precise tailoring. Trousers are inspired by vintage naval shapes; a tight peg leg is worn high and gathered in with slim leather plait belts. Signature detailing such as knitted lapels and contrast panelling is seen on outerwear.

Soft, luxurious fabrics encourage layering throughout the collection. Knitwear references traditional fisherman’s designs; intarsias, jacquards and cable knits which are contrasted with electric merino and with baby alpaca mixes. Collarless and smock neck shirt styles feature both bright graphic prints and more maritime utilitarian chambrays and vintage stripes.
