Paul Smith Men's Accessories SS14

For spring/summer 14, Paul Smith draws on bold, on-trend colours of green, yellow, pink and blue, combining both luxurious and sporty fabrics and finishes for its new line of bags and accessories.

Building further on the signature V-Base collection, the Boston holdall takes inspiration from the angular shapes of origami. The V-shaped black panel of the bottom contrasts with the block colour of the body of the bag, while the diagonal lean of the base and front section creates a structured feel to the piece. Over time and with use, the quality leather softens and the holdall takes on a slouchy vintage look and feel.

The holdall's handles, upgraded with a sporty mesh embossment, have been fused into main body of the bag, adding additional strength to the traditional stitching. The bag fastens with a luxury gold-plated grosgrain zip – a feature also seen in the mainline outerwear collection – reinforcing its high-end focus. Finished with an exclusive, navy polka-dot wipe-clean lining, the holdall's interior accommodates all the day-to-day essentials, from smartphone pockets to an EVA foam-protected iPad sleeve.

These distinctive finishing touches appear throughout the collection. The hand-stitched business folio stylishly transports a laptop and documents on the go, while the more discreet travel pouch is designed with the ardent globe-trotter in mind, with ample space for a smartphone, passport and cards.

The tote bag sees a high-quality take on the sportier fabrics and textures, reflecting the look that runs through the outerwear and ready-towear collections, with padded and stretch meshes, and an Aertex handle grip. Constructed in strong, ripstop silk, the piece, which can serve as both a tote and grab-handle bag, is finished with a high-quality zip, printed lining, masculine lace-fabric detailing and nickel buckles with gold-plated rollers.

The more casual end of the collection includes a backpack, with elasticated pockets and a flash of fluorescent highlighting inspired by the Paul Smith Jeans collection, while smaller pieces include a bumbag. Detailing such as a ball-and-post fastening on the strap, a feature typically found in equestrian accessories, epitomises the fusion of traditional and contemporary styles.
