'Jeweled Macchia' Studio Edition, 2024 by Dale Chihuly

Every year, Chihuly creates new Studio Editions, representing Chihuly’s most distinctive series. As every piece is handblown, your artwork may vary slightly in size, colour, and shape. Small blemishes or imperfections in the glass are part of the glass blowing process and add to the individual characteristics of each piece. The exuberant and unexpected colour combinations of Dale Chihuly’s 'Macchia' series achieve the artist’s vision of a visceral experience in colour and light. With opaque and translucent hues layered one over another, the works in this series appear to glow with an internal luminosity. The 2024 'Jeweled Macchia' Studio Edition begins as a clear, glass bubble. As this bubble is heated and shaped into its final form, layer upon layer of coloured glass chips are applied, each eclipsing another to create depth and contrast - yellow over blue becoming green, blue over red becoming purple, red over yellow becoming orange. A vibrant rose-coloured interior provides the foundation for this dialogue, while a golden yellow lip wrap further defines the form.
